The Carriages
In the earlier days of the Meifford light Railway, passengers were given very little consideration. In fact the only 'passengers' the line expected were for the slate workings!
Then the line extended into Meifford town itself and a proper station was eventually built. Passenger traffiic is still very light however and there is just one train each way to Lyddiarth each day, plus one out to Llanfyllin twice a week.
The company bought in two carriages from the Ffestiniog and after a lick of paint, pressed them into service. Mostly these run as part of a mixed train carrying passengers and the essential goods traffic. On special days, one might see a passenger only train, as below -
Reality...
The two carriages are resin Port Wynnstay kits, which come with etched brass chassis. The chassis make for good running, but it is essential to add a substantial slab of lead under the floor to give the whole thing some weight. The roof needs to be formed, a floor made and small details like the door hand rails also need to be bent up from brass wire, but the effort is rewarded with some nice models.
